Fruit carving for 63rd anniversary.

Thank you carving.

I donated this carving to auction for Terry Brosch's fundraiser. Terry has been suffering from muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, and scoliosis. His family's trying to raise funds to get him a van so that he can go out of the house after being stuck there for years.

Freddie Mercury

I've never carved a human image on a watermelon. This was my first attempt and I wanted to carve one of the best signers of all time, Freddie Mercury.

Luau theme carving.

This was my first attempt to carve a Hawaiian Luau theme. I wanted to add flowers that are famous in Hawaii so I decided to carve hibiscus flowers. Hibiscus flowers are the Hawaiian state flower and they have such a unique look that I instantly fell in love with them. It took a little thought and a couple of failed attempts, but I was happy with the end result. Lastly, I added pineapple in the fruit bowl to make it a more tropical theme. The honey dew melon was another one I did for fun. I love the texture because you can get really crisp and elegant lines.

4th of July carving

This is a 4th of July carving in which I used food coloring. I first carved out the eagle's head. I didn't carve very deep because I wanted to experiment using food coloring. Once I got the basic shape I shaved off most of the dark green skin so the color would show up better.
I then put a flag pattern around the outside of the eagle. Once I was happy with the design I started to add food coloring. It was a bit difficult to color on the watermelon because the texture and the moisture of the fruit caused the color to spread. The color kept leaking from one part to the others. I was pretty happy with the overall result, but I need to figure out how to stop the color from spreading.
